CROSS-CULTURAL APPROACHES TO
COMMUNITY DRIVEN DEVELOPMENT

Working with international volunteers and local communities, GP Connect and Service For Peace create libraries that can provide essential, life-saving information that is specific to local communities.

In the Philippines, GP Connect representative Dondon Marquez is successfully introducing “fish condominiums” to rural communities in Mindanao.

In Nepal, Saroj Kenal is addressing malnutrition in the community of Sarlai through goat farming. This began as a project aimed at providing each family with one goat but the project (and the goats!) have succeeded to the extent that there are currently 60 goats for 40 families.

In Paraguay, GP Connect launched a contest with the aim of locating and supporting social entrepreneurs. Applicants had to explain their community-based projects and provide reasons as to why their project should be funded. The grand prize was an interest free loan of up to US $10,000.
