Goat Farming

Nepal

In Nepal, Saroj Kenal is addressing malnutrition in the community of Sarlai through goat farming. This began as a project aimed at providing each family with one goat but the project (and the goats!) have succeeded to the extent that there are currently 60 goats for 40 families.

As the project expands, other neighbors receive the young goats that are produced each year. Those residents are then assisted in preparing goat sheds and trained on feeding and rearing the goats.

The goats provide manure that is useful for kitchen gardens and milk that can improve the family's nutrition.
